I actually like the changed dialog better. In the original version, Vader just seemed like a loyal pawn. In this version, there's a clear undertone of them trying to play each other in typical Rule of Two fashion. We know from the comics that Darth Vader knows about Luke being his son, which means he's feigning ignorance here to hide his own plans from the Emperor. And the way the Emperor says the line after 1:46 conveys that he's considering replacing Vader with Luke.

I love how the driver of that AT-AT decides to lean his hind leg outwards so he can properly hit the speeder. Although the First Star Wars movie was fun and full of action, I found that there was a certain depth that was lacking that could have made the film go a bit further. In "The Empire Strikes Back, we see a little bit more character development in all the main characters. We see Luke's internal conflict with the dark side of the force, Han Solo's love for Princess Leia, and Leia's stubbornness but reciprocated love for Han Solo. We see that Darth Vader is evil, but not as pure evil as we might have expected in the first movie. Overall, the Empire Strikes Back goes one step further and not only goes into the back story behind each character, but also their psychology as well. It makes for an interesting watch, and with slightly better visual effects, also makes for a better film than the first instalment of the Star Wars saga.

George Lucas was a genius for using the AT-ATs instead of the juggernauts. Most of he giant machines and monster are almost done by stop motion. They have no mechanisms to move themselves. They are just models and puppets that have adjustable legs and heads. They only film one frame at a time (basically taking a photo) and then someone goes to the model to move the legs a tiny bit, and they take another picture. And then you play them all like a normal movie. Getting 5 seconds of animation like that takes 120 images, which makes the whole thing really time consuming. Doing it digitally can be faster, but with these models you get the surfaces and the light to look perfect.

It's so classically Sith : master and apprentice lying to each other or keeping some crucial piece of information to themselves, Vader always exhibiting complete loyalty to Sidious to hide his plans, Sidious feigning obliviousness to Vader's ambition while he works to outplay him. When you think about, virtually the entirety of Episode V's plot was basically the opening moves of a bigass Chess game between Vader and Sidious- the Rebels, Imperials, and Luke's friends are all just pieces, and Luke himself is the prize.
